The Pacific Energy Assurance Renewable Laboratory (PEARL) Joint Technology Group (JEM) generates hydrogen for energy distribution and storage energy to provide the Hawaii-based Department of Defense (DOD) with 30-days of energy supply. The solar farm converts sun energy into renewable electricity. The electricity splits water molecules, via hydrolysis, releasing hydrogen and stores for immediate use or future distribution. A new but non-operational solar farm and substation were installed on Joint Base Pearl Harbor. SAGE Pacificproposes to operate, build a hydrogen electrolyzer and liquid hydrogen storage, and operate a distribution network. SAGE Pacific enables DOD hydrogen current and future needs supporting a free and open Pacific and exports hydrogen micro-grid demonstration as a best business management practice and creates micro-grids for INDOPACOM and other users throughout the Pacific.
PEARL JEM Concept Plan
-
-Create sustained hydrogen generation, distribution, and storage for energy security
-Hydrogen powered military installations and vehicles, aircraft, and vessels
-Provide a hydrogen distribution node supporting military operations
-
-Build additional solar farms on JBPHH to generate green hydrogen and storage
-Use stored green hydrogen to power DOD vehicle, aircraft, and vessels
-Create revenue by selling green hydrogen to contracts supporting DOD missions
-
-Existing, but not used micro-grid Green Hydrogen production
-30-day energy supply
-
-Build hydrogen generation and storage capability
-
-Air Force Research Labs to fund solar farm to substation connection
-GCC considers funding match
